Water Vapour Control

Installation Guidelines: New Build Roofs: When installing Kingspan Thermaroof® TR26 on new build roofs, a separate vapour control layer is typically recommended unless the board sits on a sealed metal deck. A condensation risk analysis must be completed for each installation to confirm appropriate specification.

Refurbishment Projects with Existing Insulated Flat Roofs or Insulated Steel Faced Composite Panels: For retrofit work involving roof insulation additions to existing insulated flat roofs or steel-faced composite panel roofs, U-value calculations and condensation risk analysis are mandatory. These assessments determine the correct insulation thickness for meeting thermal requirements whilst preventing interstitial condensation.

Installation over Existing Bituminous Waterproofing Roof Membrane: When Kingspan Thermaroof® TR26 is installed above existing bituminous waterproofing membranes, the membrane can function as a vapour control layer provided it remains in good watertight condition. If the membrane shows deterioration, install a separate vapour control layer.

Minimum Requirements for Separate Vapour Control Layer: Where a separate vapour control layer is required, specify a 1000 gauge (250 micron) polythene sheet. All joints must be lapped and sealed with double-sided self-adhesive tape to ensure effective performance.
