Water Vapour Control

Installation Guidelines: New Build Roofs: For new build installations of Kingspan Thermaroof® TR26, a separate vapour control layer is typically required unless the product is used with a sealed metal deck. A condensation risk assessment should be completed for every project to confirm correct installation practice.

Refurbishment Projects with Existing Insulated Flat Roofs or Insulated Steel Faced Composite Panels: When adding roof insulation to existing insulated flat roofs or insulated steel faced composite panels, conduct a U-value calculation and condensation risk assessment. These evaluations determine the correct insulation thickness for achieving target thermal performance whilst preventing interstitial condensation.

Installation over Existing Bituminous Waterproofing Roof Membrane: When installing Kingspan Thermaroof® TR26 over existing bituminous waterproofing membranes in refurbishment work, a sound, watertight membrane can function as a vapour control layer. If the membrane shows deterioration or damage, install a separate vapour control layer.

Minimum Requirements for Separate Vapour Control Layer: Where a separate vapour control layer is required, specify a 1000 gauge (250 micron) polythene sheet. Lap all joints and seal with double-sided self-adhesive tape for optimal performance.
