The EcoTherm Eco-Versal 50mm PIR delivers a comprehensive 5-in-1 insulation solution with a rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) core and aluminium foil composite facing on both sides, offering no fibre content.
This PIR insulation board suits both new builds and thermal upgrades to existing structures, providing an economical approach to lowering CO2 emissions and meeting Building Regulations/Standards. Its multi-purpose design makes it perfect for insulating pitched roofs, floors, walls, dormer cheeks, and ceilings.

This 50mm board works well for new construction and thermal improvements to existing building elements across numerous applications:
- The 50mm board should be positioned above the Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) only and must not contact ground moisture.
- Where a concrete slab is present or specified, apply a protective membrane of minimum 500 gauge thickness over Eco-Versal before applying the screed.
- This floor insulation works with most Underfloor Heating Systems (UFH). A minimum 500 gauge polythene sheet must cover the board before UFH installation. Always follow the UFH system manufacturer's guidance during installation.
- Install a breathable membrane according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- To prevent condensation risk, fit a Vapour Control Layer (VCL) behind the plasterboard. This may be unnecessary if using insulated plasterboard.
- Secure a Breathable Membrane per manufacturer instructions. For pitched roofs, lay the membrane over rafters and secure with tile or slate laths.
- Assess the need for a Vapour Control Layer (VCL) and/or undertile ventilation using BS 5250:2021 (Code of practice for control of condensation in buildings).
- For all over-rafter applications, fix the 50mm board using vertical counter battens to support traditional slate and tile lath fixing methods.
- Lay the breathable membrane directly on the 50mm board before installing counter battens. Alternatively, install counter battens on top of the board and drape the membrane over them.
- For achieving low U-values, consider installing insulation between rafters combined with an Insulated Plasterboard such as Ecotherm Eco-Liner on the rafter underside.
