How it's used

50mm Cordek Heaveguard provides protection against lateral heave forces. It's typically installed on the inner face of piled ground beams or within deep trench fill foundation systems to absorb and distribute heave pressures.

Choosing the right thickness

The appropriate 50mm Heaveguard thickness depends on anticipated lateral movement and void specifications as per NHBC guidance, shown in the table below. Note that Heaveguard and similar compressible polystyrene products only compress meaningfully when loads exceed 20 kN/m2, with 40 kN/m2 required for 50% compression. For this reason, 50mm Heaveguard is unsuitable for use beneath ground floor slabs, piled beams, or pile caps.
