1. 220mm Cordek Cellcore HX B is a lightweight EPS board for installation beneath concrete beams and pile caps to counteract ground heave. Grade 13/18 accommodates concrete up to 460mm depth, meeting all performance criteria.
2. The product is durable, BBA-certified, and NHBC-compliant, effectively minimising upward forces through patented technology.
3. A selection of depths and grades are offered, adaptable to soil heave potential and insulation requirements beneath pile caps or beams.
4. Select the appropriate panel depth (85mm, 155mm, or 220mm) based on soil heave risk. Installation is straightforward with minimal dust generation when cutting on-site.
5. Grade 13/18 provides a safe load of 13 kN/m2 and fail load of 18 kN/m2. Safe load represents the maximum force the board withstands without failure, whilst fail load causes permanent deformation.
6. The 220mm HX B features low shrinkage classification and a plasticity index between 40-60.
7. Manufacturing costs vary with grade and concrete depth. Grade 7/10 offers the most economical option compared to higher grades: 9/13, 13/18, 18/24, 24/32, and 32/42.

Design Notes

Each 220mm Cellcore HX B grade is engineered to support a specific concrete thickness, plus a live load allowance of 1.5 kN/m2, with minimal creep compression over a 16-hour curing period. This is termed the "SAFE LOAD."

When the predetermined load is reached, the polystyrene legs of the Cordek panels yield and collapse due to upward ground movement, known as the "FAIL LOAD."

During structural design, the slab, beam, or pile cap must be engineered to resist the difference between its self-weight and the fail load.
