Applying insulation to the external wall surface rather than internally significantly reduces the likelihood of interstitial condensation developing within the wall structure.

Preparation

Deploy netting on scaffolding to prevent polystyrene debris dispersal during windy conditions. We strongly advise using a hot knife or hot wire cutters to minimise polystyrene offcuts; however, standard knives work if necessary. Whenever possible, cut the 90mm EPS insulation boards within a sheltered area to prevent offcuts from scattering.

EPS Insulation Application

Always follow the manufacturer's installation specifications for EPS insulation boards, ensuring comprehensive coverage of design and application requirements. Initially, secure the EPS boards to the substrate (masonry or timber) using mortar/adhesive or mechanical fixings.

After securing the boards to an external wall, apply a protective outer layer such as a mortar basecoat or netting to guard against excessive heat, moisture, and UV damage.

Before applying the basecoat or mortar with fibreglass mesh, rasp or sand the board surface to achieve an abrasive finish suitable for mesh application. Once complete, the substrate is prepared for fibreglass mesh installation. Consult the full installation guide for comprehensive instructions.
