20mm Stylite Expanded Polystyrene insulation boards provide an excellent solution for external wall insulation applications. These boards attach readily to existing wall substrates, delivering immediate improvements to both aesthetic appeal and thermal performance. Applying insulation to the external wall surface rather than internally significantly reduces interstitial condensation formation within wall cavities.

Stylite 20mm External Wall Insulation board suits diverse wall constructions including solid brick and timber frame walls. External wall insulation typically receives a rendered protective finish, with application methods varying by system specification. The 20mm Stylite EWI boards also perform well in rail or drained cavity EWI configurations.

Preparation

Deploy netting on scaffolding to prevent polystyrene drift during installation. We strongly advise using a hot knife or hot wire cutters to minimise polystyrene offcuts, though standard knives remain viable. Ideally, cut the 20mm EPS insulation boards under cover to prevent offcuts dispersing.

EPS Insulation Application

Install EPS insulation boards strictly according to manufacturer specifications, addressing all design and application requirements. Initially, secure EPS boards to substrate (masonry or timber) using mortar/adhesive or mechanical fixings.

Following substrate attachment to external walls, apply a protective outer layer such as mortar basecoat or netting to shield from excessive heat, moisture, and UV damage.

Before basecoat or fibreglass mesh mortar application, rasp or sand the board top surface to achieve an abrasive finish. Once complete, the substrate accepts fibreglass mesh application. Consult the full installation guide for comprehensive instructions.

EPS Insulation Storage

Verify the manufacturer's expiry date for shelf life information. Store in dry conditions within original packaging. Prevent exposure to excessive heat or direct UV radiation.
