20mm Expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation board delivers exceptional thermal performance for external wall insulation systems. This high-specification material substantially improves building thermal efficiency, enhances U-values, and minimises water ingress and condensation risks. The 20mm format works seamlessly with timber, masonry, system-built properties, tile hanging, and numerous rendering finishes. Installation involves adhesive and mechanical fixings on masonry or timber-backed walls, with cavity void applications also supported for cavity wall insulation work.
20mm Stylite Plustherm Grey EPS 70 stands as the preferred choice for external wall insulation systems, combining outstanding thermal performance with excellent value. Selecting this cost-effective 20mm EPS board delivers significant savings whilst maintaining superior quality and thermal credentials.
Installation of 20mm EPS within an EWI system benefits from reduced material costs. The material's lightweight nature requires lower-strength adhesive and plastic fixings rather than metal alternatives. Being non-breathable, 20mm Stylite EPS permits use of economical thin coat renders including EWI-075 Silicone Render and EWI-040 Acrylic Render.
20mm Stylite Expanded Polystyrene insulation boards provide an excellent solution for external wall insulation applications. These boards attach readily to existing wall substrates, delivering immediate improvements to both aesthetic appeal and thermal performance. Applying insulation to the external wall surface rather than internally significantly reduces interstitial condensation formation within wall cavities.
Stylite 20mm External Wall Insulation board suits diverse wall constructions including solid brick and timber frame walls. External wall insulation typically receives a rendered protective finish, with application methods varying by system specification. The 20mm Stylite EWI boards also perform well in rail or drained cavity EWI configurations.
Deploy netting on scaffolding to prevent polystyrene drift during installation. We strongly advise using a hot knife or hot wire cutters to minimise polystyrene offcuts, though standard knives remain viable. Ideally, cut the 20mm EPS insulation boards under cover to prevent offcuts dispersing.
Install EPS insulation boards strictly according to manufacturer specifications, addressing all design and application requirements. Initially, secure EPS boards to substrate (masonry or timber) using mortar/adhesive or mechanical fixings.
Following substrate attachment to external walls, apply a protective outer layer such as mortar basecoat or netting to shield from excessive heat, moisture, and UV damage.
Before basecoat or fibreglass mesh mortar application, rasp or sand the board top surface to achieve an abrasive finish. Once complete, the substrate accepts fibreglass mesh application. Consult the full installation guide for comprehensive instructions.
Verify the manufacturer's expiry date for shelf life information. Store in dry conditions within original packaging. Prevent exposure to excessive heat or direct UV radiation.
