Applying insulation to the external wall surface rather than internally minimises the potential for interstitial condensation within the wall structure.

Preparation

Deploy netting on scaffolding to prevent polystyrene debris from dispersing in windy conditions. We strongly advise using hot knife or hot wire cutters to minimise polystyrene waste generation, though standard knives work as an alternative. Ideally, perform cutting of the 50mm EPS insulation boards within a sheltered environment to prevent offcuts from becoming airborne.

EPS Insulation Application

Always follow the manufacturer's installation specifications for EPS insulation boards, ensuring complete compliance with design and application requirements. Initially, secure the EPS boards to the substrate (masonry or timber) using mortar/adhesive or mechanical fixings.

After fixing boards to an external wall, apply a protective outer layer such as mortar basecoat or netting to shield from excessive heat, moisture, and UV damage.
