About

Rainscreen cladding at 125mm thickness is an essential element in contemporary building construction. It functions as a protective barrier against weather exposure whilst supporting energy efficiency and thermal comfort inside the building. This specialist insulation sits behind the exterior cladding, establishing a ventilated air gap between the cladding and the main structure.

A key advantage of 125mm rainscreen cladding insulation is its superior moisture control capability. The ventilated cavity allows air movement between the cladding and insulation, preventing moisture accumulation and reducing risks of mould, decay, and structural damage. This moisture management feature significantly extends the durability of the building envelope.

Installation

  1. Unilin 125mm Stonewool panels arrive in polythene-wrapped packs suitable for temporary open storage. For longer-term storage, keep packs raised and sheltered from weather. When specified, breather membranes provide additional protection. The high-density panels are resilient and can tolerate reasonable exposure during installation, though protection during construction is recommended where possible.
  2. Key considerations when installing 125mm Unilin SW/RS panels:
  3. These panels are easy to work with and can be cut using a fine-tooth saw or sharp knife. Accurate fitting to adjoining boards and around openings is vital for maximum thermal performance.
  4. Tight joints between adjacent boards maintain continuity in the insulation layer.
  5. During installation, arrange boards in a break-bonded pattern with all joints firmly closed.
  6. Metal and polypropylene 'mushroom' type fixings with a minimum diameter of 125mm will secure the panels until the main cladding is fitted.
  7. Account for all penetrations through the insulation layer in thermal calculations, particularly at floor junctions and openings.

Handling, Cutting, and Storage:

  1. Unilin Rainscreen Cladding Insulation should be positioned on a clean, flat surface elevated from ground level and protected by a cover.
  2. Polythene wrapping alone does not provide sufficient protection against weather exposure.
  3. Take care to prevent damage to the insulation during storage and throughout the construction phase.
  4. Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling the insulation board.

Certification and Standards:

  1. BBA Certification Number: 10/4803.
  2. Compliance with BS EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  3. Adherence to BS EN ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  4. Conformance with BS EN 13166 standards.
