Thermal Bridging

Selecting between an insulated foundation system and conventional strip foundations requires straightforward heat loss assessment and performance comparison. The following approach should be taken:

Determine the achieved U-Value for the floor itself. Examine the Psi value, which quantifies heat loss at the junction between wall and floor. Apply an appropriate f (temperature) factor to prevent surface condensation and mould formation at skirting level. Generally, U-Values exceeding 0.15 W/m2K satisfy Future Homes Standard requirements. The resulting U-Value from a specific floor insulation thickness depends on the floor's perimeter-to-area ratio (P/A). For example, approximately 150mm of the Hyfloor system typically delivers a U-Value between 0.11 and 0.13 W/m2K.
